Foucault Pendulum
(1600-8) |
How can you prove that the earth is rotating? Well this unit will help and it allows students and observers to witness an experiment developed by Jean Foucault in the 19th century that was monumental in developing our knowledge of our own planet and solar system. A heavy chrome ball attached to a 1 meter long wire is placed in motion by giving it a slight swing. The large circular protractor below allows you to track the sphere as the earth rotates beneath it. This item stands 5' tall and houses a electromagnetic in the base to keep the pendulum swinging by compensating for frictional and gravitational forces. Housed in a steel cabinet with glass walls and an internal light source for easy 360 degree viewing. |
