It converges for a small length & diverges for the remaining length. Flow can be controlled by a gate valve. Pizometers connected to flow section, make it possible to measure pressure heads & give visual observations of hydraulic gradient. SPECIFICATIONS 1) Tanks : 2 numbers of suitable size mounted on stand. 2) Flow channel of 90 cm length made out of perspex sheets. 3) Prizometer tubes equispaced at 5 cm. 4) Measuring tank of 100 lit. cap. 5) Stop clock. 6) Prizometer tubes equispaced at 5 cm. 7) Measuring tank of 100 lit. cap. 8) Stop clock. RANGE OF EXPERIMENTS 1) Bernoulli?s theorem for the flow of real liquid can be verified. 2) Hydraulic grade line & the total energy line along the flow section can be plotted & can be studied. The column height readings are facilitated by means of sliding stand, which can be lifted upward & downward so that their lower ends just touch the free surfaces of the liquids. See Enlarge Click to Enlarge BOYLE?S LAW ?J? TUBE ON STAND (LSE) Consists of a ?J? tube mounted on a wooden stand approx. 840mm high. The closed limb of the ?J? tube is approx. 400mm long with 1mm bore & the open limb is approx. 780mm long with 8mm bore. A scale is fitted to the stand graduated from 0 at the lower end to 80cm at the top. A loose fitting plunger is pushed into the open limb of the ?J? tube by displacement; the height of the mercury can be adjusted from about -50mm to +450mm relative to the closed end. The lower ends of the tubes are drawn out & connected together by 1.5m of rubber pressure tubing (outer dia 10mm & inner dia 5mm). Both the tubes are mounted on brackets which can be locked on any portion on the metal supporting rods. Stand is made of approx. 1.06m in height & carries a graduated scale 0 to 100cm with mm divisions in centre & figured every 2cm up either side on heavy metal box. See Enlarge Click to Enlarge FORTIN?S BAROMETER (LSE) A glass tube of 6mm bore is contained in an enameled & lacquered brass case, mounted on a polished wooden board with plates for fixing to wall, open plate reflectors & ring & screws for vertical adjustment. The silvered scales, graduated in inches & mm are read by vernier moving by Rack & pinion to 1/200 in & 1/10mm & are enclosed in glass cylinder. A glass cylinder at the lower end of the barometer is provided with an ivory point to which the level of the mercury in the cistern is adjusted before readings are taken. A ring support & three locking screws at base of instrument provide a means of securing the barometer in a vertical positions. Fitted with thermometer with centigrade & Fahrenheit scale. Supplied without mercury but with instruction for filling the barometer. Scale is graduated in both English & metric systems. Zero point adjustment is carried by a screw clamp attached to glass tube. Complete fitted on a polished wooden board.
