Mini Surber 0.25SF 6 (LSE)

• Brand new - only from Science First®!

• Use just like a larger surber

• For student field work or shallow streams less than 6”

A surber is a type of net used to sample for specific macrobenthos in flowing water such as streams or rivers. Here’s a brand-new scaled-down surber that doesn’t scale down quality. Featuring the same stainless steel frame, 500 micron Nitex® bolt cloth net, and taffeta wings of our larger surbers, this sampler has a net 11” long and a sampling area of 1/4 square foot. While the size and price make it ideal for student studies, it is also useful for sampling small rivulets and intermittent streams. Avoid still water, fast current and streams deeper than 6”.

Soil Thermometer

Soil Thermometer (LSE)

Treat your seeds like you would your children - keep them warm while they're asleep.

It only makes sense that any growing thing needs enough warmth to survive. Seeds germinate successfully when the soil is the right temperature - that's why we can't plant too early. But when is that? With this thermometer, you'll take the guesswork out of your planting. It has the added benefit of teaching students about temperature by having them test the soil daily, maybe even chart their results.

The virtually indestructible thermometer gives readings of -15 to 65 degrees Celcius with easy-to-read numnbers. 32 cm (12.5") long, it includes a round push ball on the top for easy insertion into the soil, even if it is hard or dry.

Interlabs? Mighty Grab (TM) II (LSE)

? A scaled down version of our world-renowned grabs
? For hand line operation
? Center pivot closing action
? Trip release needs no messenger
? Included sampling pole
for use in shallow water
Here?s a nearly indispensable tool for sampling hard and soft bottoms. (You may not want to phrase it quite that way when leading your high school?s ecology club.) Drop our light-weight sampler into your river or lake and pull up smartly on the included line when it strikes the bottom. Or, use our optional sampling pole which attaches to the trip mechanism for shallow water.
Features include: cast stainless steel scoops and a large, easy to handle hinge pin. The center pivot closing action avoids distorting your sample.
Like our other Interlabs? equipment, this little grab is no substitute for the Ekman and Ponar? grabs in many protocols. But, for introducing your students to the nature of research, there?s none so effective as the ?mighty? grab!

Interlabs? Basic Water Sampler (LSE)

This innovative, cost-effective basic water sampler is just the ticket for budding ecologists. Intended for middle school, it features an impact resistant gray PVC bottle body of 1.75 liters and soft rubber seals. The unusual trip mechanism uses no messenger - just jerk the line sharply to close. While the trip is designed to work best in water, it?s safe on land - soft rubber seals won?t pinch fingers or cause an injury. We include 20 m of line on a foam winding float that will bob to the surface if it falls into the water. Instructions describe operation and use. Made in USA.
